Our children – Do we care about their emotional wellbeing?

There was some mist in the eyes when I stepped out of the airplane. I also had a prayer for the little angel who sat next to me on my flight. Emily (name changed) the little nine-year-old girl was traveling alone from Seattle to Phoenix to stay with her aunt for the rest of her school year or maybe the rest of her life. Her parent had divorced and she was supposed to be under the custody of her dad. But he was unable to look after her and that’s why she is making the long trip to a totally new city to live with her aunt with whom she had limited familiarity. The emptiness in the eyes of Emily will stay as a pain in my heart for a long time. The flight attendant was trying to make Emily happy all along the way. She offered every kind of food that she could provide to Emily in the flight. She also did several comical acts to make the little angel smiling. The flight attendant told me that she is a grandmother of an eight-year-old and she could see the pain in the eyes of the little child. May God bless the flight attendant for her kind act! Do parents realize how much agony they cause to the children when they break up? Most of these break up happens for silly reasons and the children will suffer for the rest of their life. Whatever the case may be, as a society we should not leave these children hapless. At the minimum, we should provide emotional support for them. The Skaria Foundation (www.skariafoundation.org), a nonprofit charitable corporation, is trying to help young adults find their purpose. At ‘The Skaria Foundation’, we try to assist young people, aged fourteen through twenty-four, to overcome difficulties that they are facing in their growth path. Even at the infancy stage of the organization, we are able to help several young people to regain confidence and purpose in their lives. Let’s all collaborate to make sure that our children and young adults have a better future ahead.
